AGR uses the Andrussow process to manufacture sodium cyanide solution. As the only sodium cyanide producer in Western Australia, we competitively supply sodium cyanide solution to gold mining operations in the state’s key gold producing regions.

AGR's sodium cyanide solution product is provided to gold mining customers within Western Australia
We deliver sodium cyanide solution using a closed circuit in a ready-to-use form, which eliminates product handling by mine site personnel and the need to dissolve solid sodium cyanide.
As a ready-to-use product, customers don’t need to provide facilities to dissolve solid sodium cyanide or supply additional water. This is particularly relevant to mining operations in Western Australia that can only access high salinity water or face other water resource management issues.
Using sodium cyanide solution also eliminates the use of chemicals, such as caustic soda, to maintain a stable pH level when dissolving solid sodium cyanide. Water quality, in particular salinity, can significantly destabilise the pH balance in the dissolution process.
The proximity of AGR’s production facilities to Western Australia’s gold producing regions means short delivery times to customers. This proximity, together with our large storage facilities, minimises the need for customers to hold large volumes of stock on site, and saves upfront and working capital costs.
AGR manages and monitors stock levels at customer site storage facilities, typically using telemetry on tanks, which provides surety of supply and working capital and freight cost benefits for our customers.
AGR transports sodium cyanide solution using custom-designed isotainers engineered to the highest safety and standards. The delivery and transfer of product to mine site receival and storage facilities is designed to ensure the safety of all personnel.
A key safety feature of the isotainers is a specialised ‘top discharge’ pressurised pumping system that pneumatically discharges the product directly into customer storage facilities.
All isotainer fittings are located within a protective coaming, which can be locked when vessels are holding product and in transit, providing additional safety benefits.
Vessel design conditions are 425 kPa positive pressure to 30 kPa negative pressure.
Our isotainers comply with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code for International Maritime Organisation Type 1 vessels and the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods, and meet Australian Standards AS 1210 Pressure Vessels.
AGR’s transport management plan for sodium cyanide solution is International Cyanide Management Institute Code-accredited and addresses all aspects of delivery, from our production facilities to customer sites via rail and road.
In Australia, the majority of sodium cyanide solution is transported by rail in isotainers from our Kwinana site to a depot in Kalgoorlie, from where it is transported by road to customer mine sites. Where rail transport is not available, product is transported directly to customer sites by road.
To ensure the highest level of safety and security, the transport of all product is continuously tracked and monitored throughout delivery to the site.
